Adaptive swim programs

This particular article is about the YMCA, in Burlington, Vermont.  It happens to be where my oldest son learned to swim, as an infant.  I have always been an advocate for the early swimming programs at the Y – I think they’re great!

Now I see they received a grant from Autism speaks to work specifically with teaching children and adults on the Spectrum how to swim.  How cool is that?!  My oldest son now has a non-verbal son, just like the child mentioned in this article. http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/news/local/2016/01/08/adaptive-swim-program-success/78510644/

I would suggest if you have a need for your ASD loved one to learn to swim (and everyone should learn to swim, even if just for safety issues) check into your local YMCA and ask about an adaptive swim program in your area.
